Post-Christmas Blog

Dec. 28, 2012 Well, 2 days after the "storm" we still have snow. Much of Canada got snow on Boxing Day according to the Weather Network. And (hallelujah!) we got to use our snowshoes today. My husband worked on Boxing Day and because of the storm we didn't do too much, although we did go for a walk in the wind. Other than that, today was the first day that I didn't have to go anywhere or be anywhere following the holiday. I wish I had more days like this! Tomorrow I think we're visiting a friend & their new house. New Year's Eve we've been invited to 2 parties, however I think we will only be able to make it to one. Hope my sister got home today safe & sound. My daughter was some upset that she couldn't go home with her for 14 days. She thinks that my sister and her pets should come and live with us forever. (teehee--5 year olds are so cute sometimes!) Until next time... D.

Dec. 14th - 10 days until the Man with the Bag arrives (if you don't know that song, look it up) and I'm not done my shopping. Nothing is wrapped. I'm almost in full-blown panic mode. I only just got my photo cards printed and addressed today. Most of them will be in the mail tomorrow. Now is really the time when I wish I had powers like Samantha the Witch and could stop time, even for a little while. And if we don't get any snow we won't get to use our snowshoes for the 2nd year in a row. Oh, poop! Guess we'll have to trek up to Huntsville to visit my sister. Now that makes me smile. Until next time... D.

Well, Little Laura arrived one month before her due date, healthy and happy. I was privileged to be able to take her first "official" photos a few weeks ago. She still seems so tiny but was 6lbs 6oz in this photo. Until next time... D.

What?! August 8th? Couldn't be!

Well, apparently I've been neglecting my blog. But seeing that I only have 3 followers I'm not sure it matters. Whoa - deja vu! I've only had one photography booking. Camera Club has started back up but I've been dragging my heels about rejoining. I've heard it's been good so far so maybe I'll drop in on Wednesday. We got a new kitten on the first day of school. Now I really understand the meaning of the old phrase "she is full of piss & vinegar". Growing like a weed, too. My daughter loves her and then hates her--mostly the latter when she attacks her or bites her feet while she's sleeping. My husband & I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. We went out for dinner at the Keg this past weekend. My niece/nephew who is scheduled to arrived around November 20th almost made a surprise visit on October 11th. My sister will be in hospital until the little one is born. That's it...pretty boring if I can blog 2 months worth in a few sentences. Oh, well! Sometimes life happens and it's important at the time. Take care everyone! D.

O.M.Gosh!

Another month has gone by and I have nothing to blog. My life is so boring! My five-year-old is having much more fun than I am. I made a pitcher of margaritas thinking some of my girlfriends were coming over tonight. They didn't come, so I get to drink alone (daughter is at Gramma's). How sad is that?

Something new

Check this out! Now I have a place to store my scrapbooking stuff and I don't have to pack/unpack when I'm going to a Crop Night. I can't take credit for the idea. My husband has been telling me for a while that I should get a tool chest for scrapbooking but it wasn't until I saw one of these babies in use that I knew what he was talking about! There are about 4 people at my work that use one as their scrapbooking tote. I used it for the first time on Friday night and I was actually able to load it into the car by myself (I have a Honda CR-V, so it's not low to the ground). Everyone was in awe of it! The only thing I didn't pack in it was my paper--it would have been way too heavy if I did that. I'm going to personalize it by adding something to the front using my Cricut machine and white vinyl. Oh, the fun!

Just Because

It's been a LONG time since I posted but I feel like nothing has happened. The truth is that things have been happening and I haven't been blogging. There. I said it. My daughter celebrated her 5th birthday in style with a "pet party" and Hello Kitty decor. There's been a little drama with a group of friends. I was asked about taking photos for a wedding but haven't heard back. Camera Club has wrapped up for the year but I'm not sure I will be renewing my membership in the fall. And of course, there is always the weather. Today we had thunder, lightening, torrential downpours and hail. The streets were flooding. We had a small flood in the backyard because there was just too much rain all at once. It would be nice to get back to the sunshine soon. Not the scorching heat that we've already had but 20C would be nice! Summer vacation plans are coming together. This is my daughter's first year in school so it is also technically her first summer off. She really has no concept of it but we've talked about not going to school and doing things to keep busy while Mama is at work. She is registered for 3 weeks at day camp, will be going to horseback riding camp for 2 weeks, Gramma's for a week and her favourite Auntie's for the first 2 weeks of the summer. Expensive but in perspective the summer is costing us about what a month would have at daycare. Thank goodness for family pitching in for 3 weeks!! (Love you, Heather!) So, I'm done blathering & blogging for a while. Hopefully I'll get some "me" time to do something creative like scrapbooking and photography soon. Oh yeah, and pluck away at the guitar. Until next time, D.

Leap Day - is that what they call it?

It's the last day of February and the last day of my personal "Day in the Life" photo project. Today's photo was a picture of a hotel. Maybe not all that exciting but I was at a workshop today, which doesn't happen too often. And I enjoy things like that. Getting new ideas, checking to see if I'm on the right track, networking, continuous learning, not to mention a day out of the office!

Here's a funny photography quote that I love: "I shoot people." Now I'm off to make tomorrow's lunch for my little girl and go to bed.

Until next time...

Photo Challenge Update

Well, my photo challenge is challenging. Just what I needed. I still need to get over the hurdle that everyday life is mundane. Reality is, everything has a story. I've taken pictures of articles I bought at a school fundraiser, lots of activities with my daughter, scrapbooking with friends, my keyboard, my sore knee on the day I had an x-ray, and the program for a school play that we saw today. Seven days left of "A Day in the Life". Any ideas on what I should do with photos?

Until next time...

Personal Photo Challenge

Well, not feeling challenged enough by my club lately I decided to come up with something to challenge myself. On February 1st I began "A Day in the Life" photo challenge. February is a shorter month but it's also a leap year this year, so I thought that would be a neat way to mark the occasion, so to speak. Each day I take a photo of something in my life, and it's different every day. That in itself is challenging but I am also trying to only use my 50mm and manual settings. I may post a few before the end of the month. Here is today's photo: My daughter baking cookies using my (antique) Easy-Bake Oven.

Until next time...

83 days

That's how long it's been since I blogged!! Since then a lot has happened but I wasn't online to tell about it. I was very busy in November since my workplace (a hospital) moved to a brand new facility. My daughter & I went up north to visit my sister. The kindergarten classes were part of the school play so I went to see my daughter sing. I also helped in her class for two days of Christmas festivities (bedlam). Christmas holidays & New Year's, of course. Time with family & friends but nothing out of the ordinary.

I did a family photo shoot that I was VERY happy with. It was a referral from a friend. The same friend who just moved back to the US with her family. There were lots of get-togethers and tearful good-byes. They left on Wednesday, arrived on Friday and started to unpack just in time to get the TV set up for the football game. LOL!

Last week there was the retirement of a very fond co-worker. The same week my boss announced her impending retirement, which knocked my socks off. It was an emotional roller coaster on top of the other good-byes!

On Friday night my daughter had a friend over for her first sleep-over. They are only 4 years old but they did very well. G was a very good guest.

Saturday I did another wedding photo shoot for a friend (my 3rd). They had a civil ceremony before their destination wedding in the D.R. Unfortunately I can't go down south but it would have been a big party (and of course lots of picture taking opportunities).

So...needless to say I have been very emotional of late. My daughter's been throwing temper tantrums and being grumpy while I'm teary at dog food commercials. Oh, brother! I'll try to be more on top of things but it's not like I have tons of followers who care. Most of my friends are on FB. Which, by the way, I almost gave up on 2 months ago. Almost.

Until next time...D.
